meet sarah grace:
Sarah Grace McCandless = 100%, grade A Midwest.

After c-sectioning my way into this world (how lazy!) one hot summer night in Chicago, IL, I spent the better part of my formative years in Michigan (that’s the one shaped like a mitten). I graduated from Michigan State and moved to Portland, OR for eight years (and p.s., that city is the best kept secret in the country – oops, not anymore). Now I make my way in Washington, D.C. freelancing for several publications including Venus magazine, Mudsugar, and Daily Candy, so
check them out.

I also like Halloween, Law and Order: SVU, and cupcakes. Mmmmm. Cupcakes.

A few highlights:
First kiss – Kindergarten (slut!) with Jason Czarnik during story hour at
Anderson Elementary School in Trenton, MI.

First book I wrote – The Circus Book. Age four, created with my mother’s typewriter on steno notebook paper. Illustrated with colored pencils, a few random markers, and some of those stars you would get on good book reports. Print run: one copy.

First pet I don’t actually remember having – a pair of birds named Bert and Ernie. I think they were sort of white and yellow. I was told that Bert died and Ernie flew away. Funny, I always thought those two would be life partners.

First concert – I think it was the Jackson Victory Tour at the Pontiac Silverdome, but this was also around the time of Pat Benetar at Pine Knob and Hall & Oates at Cobo Hall, so it’s sort of a toss up.

First “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret” moment (the ladies know what I am talking about) – Chirstmas Day, 1987. No joke. Thanks, Santa.
